Sigiriya involves a 45-minute climb with steps and some steep sections. It is manageable for most fitness levels. Take it slow — the frescoes midway and the summit views are worth every step.
Ella is a cool hill town at 1,000m altitude with stunning views over tea plantations. The Nine Arch Bridge is one of the most photographed railway viaducts in Asia — walk to it through the tea estates.
The scenic Kandy–Ella train ride (one of Asia's most beautiful railway journeys, 6–7 hours) is included. Book observation car seats early — they sell out.
Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a well-preserved Dutch colonial fort with cobblestone streets, boutique cafés, art galleries and sea bastions. A leisurely 2-hour walk.
