Thailand Tour from Coimbatore: Bangkok, Phuket & Krabi — 5-Night vs 7-Night Breakdown

14 Jun 2026 10 min read By SriGo

I’ve taken over 200 guests from Coimbatore to Thailand in the past three years, and the questions I get before every trip are almost always the same: Do I need a visa? Which city should I visit? Is 5 nights enough, or should I stretch to 7? I run SriGo Tours out of Coimbatore, and Thailand has become our most-booked international destination — partly because it’s genuinely affordable from CBE, partly because it delivers variety that very few destinations match at this price. In this post, I’m sharing everything I tell my guests before they board, including the flight options out of Coimbatore, a proper breakdown of the destination choices, and an honest answer on whether to go 5 nights or 7.

Quick Answer

  • Visa: Indians are currently visa-free for up to 30 days in Thailand (as of November 2023). No stamp required — just carry proof of return flight and accommodation.
  • Cost range: A Thailand tour package from Coimbatore costs roughly ₹55,000–₹90,000 per person for 5–7 nights, including flights, hotels, and guided trips.
  • Best duration: 7 nights gives you Bangkok + Phuket + Krabi comfortably. 5 nights works well for Bangkok + Phuket only.
  • Best time to visit: November to February — cool, dry, and clear skies across most of Thailand.
  • From Coimbatore: No direct flights; you connect via Bangalore (BLR) or Chennai (MAA). Total travel time is 8–10 hours one way.

India–Thailand Visa: What You Actually Need

Since November 2023, India and Thailand have a mutual visa-free arrangement. Indian passport holders can enter Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa, a visa on arrival, or any advance application. The arrangement has been extended and confirmed through 2026, so this applies to all Coimbatore guests booking travel this year.

What you should carry, even though no visa is required:

  • Return flight booking confirmation — immigration officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) do ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or screenshot copy ready.
  • Hotel booking confirmations for all nights, or at minimum the first hotel.
  • Sufficient funds proof — Thailand’s immigration guidelines suggest THB 10,000 per person (roughly ₹23,000) as a financial sufficiency benchmark. Having ₹20,000 equivalent in cash or a card you can show works fine.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel date.

In my experience running Thailand tours, none of my guests have had issues at immigration when they carry these four things. The process at BKK is faster than most expect — typically 15–20 minutes in the queue.

Flights from Coimbatore (CBE) to Bangkok

There are no direct flights from Coimbatore to Bangkok. All routes require one connection, either through Bangalore (Kempegowda International, BLR) or Chennai (MAA). Here’s a summary of the realistic options:

Route Airlines Approx. Return Fare Total Travel Time (one way)
CBE → BLR → BKK IndiGo / Air India ₹15,000–₹22,000 ~8–10 hours
CBE → MAA → BKK Thai Airways / IndiGo ₹16,000–₹25,000 ~7–9 hours

The Bangalore connection is generally cheaper and has more frequency, especially on IndiGo. The Chennai connection via Thai Airways is worth considering if you’re looking for checked baggage included in the fare — Thai Airways’s economy class includes 30 kg checked luggage, which matters when guests are carrying gifts or shopping on the return. Fares above are approximate and based on advance bookings (45–60 days prior); last-minute fares will be significantly higher.

When I book group packages, I typically route through BLR for most guests because the CBE–BLR sector has 6–8 daily departures, giving us flexibility if an early morning flight is missed. The layover at BLR is usually 1.5–2 hours.

Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi or Pattaya? Destination Decision Table

One of the first decisions in any Thailand trip is which combination of cities to cover. Each destination has a distinct character, and not everyone wants the same thing. Here’s how I explain it to guests:

Destination Best For Days Needed Price Tier Crowd Level
Bangkok City culture, shopping, temples, street food 2–3 days Budget–Mid Busy year-round
Phuket Beaches, water sports, nightlife, boat trips 3–4 days Mid–High Busy Oct–Apr
Krabi Rock climbing, island hopping, quieter beaches 3–4 days Mid Moderate Oct–Apr
Pattaya Budget beach, water parks, family outings 2–3 days Budget Busy year-round
Chiang Mai Temples, elephant sanctuaries, trekking, culture 2–3 days Budget Moderate Nov–Mar

For first-time visitors from Coimbatore, the Bangkok + Phuket combination is the most popular, and for good reason — it gives you the contrast of a world-class city and a beach destination within a single trip. If budget allows and it’s your first time in Thailand, I recommend adding Krabi to that combination (see the 7N comparison below).

Chiang Mai is a separate trip in itself. It’s in northern Thailand and requires an internal flight from Bangkok; it doesn’t combine well with Phuket or Krabi in a 7-night itinerary unless you’re willing to sacrifice depth. I usually suggest Chiang Mai as a return visit destination.

5-Night vs 7-Night: Which Package Is Worth It?

This is the question I get most often, and the answer depends on whether it’s your first time in Thailand and how much you want to move around.

5N/6D: Bangkok 2 Nights + Phuket 3 Nights

Price range: ₹55,000–₹75,000 per person (land cost + return flights from CBE included). This package covers Grand Palace and Wat Pho in Bangkok, one full day in the city for Chatuchak Market or Asiatique, and three nights in Phuket with a Coral Island trip or a Phi Phi Island day trip included. It’s a compact itinerary with no wasted days — you land, you see, you leave satisfied.

Who should book 5N: Repeat visitors, couples on a quick break, or guests with tight leave schedules.

7N/8D: Bangkok 2 Nights + Phuket 2 Nights + Krabi 3 Nights

Price range: ₹65,000–₹90,000 per person (land cost + return flights from CBE included). The extra ₹8,000–₹12,000 over the 5N package gets you three nights in Krabi — which means a boat trip through the Phi Phi Islands and Maya Bay, kayaking through Ao Thalane mangroves, and time at Railay Beach, which is one of the few beaches in Thailand still genuinely peaceful during peak season.

Who should book 7N: First-time visitors, families who want variety, and anyone who has heard about Krabi specifically and wants to experience it properly rather than as a rushed day trip.

Verdict: If it’s your first time in Thailand, the 7N is worth the extra cost. The Krabi segment of the trip is what most guests photograph and remember. If you’ve already done Bangkok and Phuket on a previous trip, the 5N is perfectly structured for a return visit focused on something specific.

Vegetarian Food in Thailand: A Guide for Indian Travellers

A significant number of my guests from Coimbatore are vegetarian, and this is an honest concern when travelling to Southeast Asia. The short answer is that vegetarians can eat well in Thailand, but it requires knowing where to look and a few useful phrases.

Bangkok

  • Rang Mahal at Rembrandt Hotel (Sukhumvit Soi 18) — an Indian restaurant with a solid vegetarian menu including South Indian options. Prices are hotel-level but the food is reliable.
  • Himali Cha Cha (near Asok BTS) — a long-standing Indian restaurant that has been feeding Indian travellers in Bangkok for decades. Vegetarian thalis, dal, and rice are available.
  • Govinda’s (near Sukhumvit Soi 22) — a Hare Krishna-run restaurant serving pure vegetarian food. South Indian dishes are on the menu and it’s one of the most affordable options in the Sukhumvit area.

Phuket

  • The Rat-U-Thit Road area in Patong has a cluster of Indian restaurants catering to the large South Asian tourist base. Most have vegetarian menus.
  • Look for restaurants displaying a yellow flag — this indicates “Jay” food, which is Buddhist vegan cooking (no meat, no animal products, sometimes no strong-smelling vegetables like garlic and onion). Jay food is widely available across Thailand, especially near temples and in older market areas.

Useful Thai Phrase

The phrase “Kin jay” (เจ) means vegan or Buddhist vegetarian in Thai. Showing this on your phone at a local restaurant will usually produce a workable vegetarian dish, though it may vary from what you expect. The word “jay” on a sign means the restaurant or dish is fully plant-based.

In my experience, vegetarian guests manage very well in Bangkok and Phuket specifically. Krabi has fewer dedicated Indian restaurants, but the Jay food tradition means you can always find something at local markets.

What’s Included vs What’s Not

I prefer to be upfront about this rather than have guests discover extras on the trip. Here’s the standard breakdown for our Thailand packages:

Included Not Included
Return flights (CBE via BLR or MAA to BKK) Personal shopping expenses
Hotels (3-star standard, twin/double sharing) Alcoholic beverages
Airport transfers (arrival and departure) Optional island hops beyond the included trip
Daily breakfast (half-board) Phuket FantaSea show (₹3,500–₹5,000 per person)
One island trip (Coral Island in Phuket or Phi Phi in Krabi) Full-board meal upgrade
Local guide assistance throughout Travel insurance (strongly recommended; available as add-on)
Thailand tourist SIM card on arrival Visa fees if policy changes (currently visa-free)

Travel insurance is not included as standard but I strongly recommend it for all international travel. A basic travel insurance policy for a 7-night Thailand trip from India costs ₹800–₹1,500 and covers medical emergencies, trip delays, and lost baggage. We can arrange this as an add-on at the time of booking.

Practical Information

Flights from CBE Via BLR (Bangalore) or MAA (Chennai). No direct CBE–BKK flights. Total travel time one way: 7–10 hours depending on layover.
Power Adapter Thailand uses Type A and Type B sockets (same as USA). Indian 2-pin plugs usually fit Type A without an adapter, but bring a multi-adapter to be safe.
Emergency Number Tourist Police: 1155 (English-speaking, 24 hours)

What to Pack

  • Clothing: Light cotton clothes — linen or cotton shirts, loose trousers or shorts. Thailand is hot and humid; synthetic fabric is uncomfortable for full-day temple and market walks.
  • Sun protection: Sunscreen SPF 50+ is essential. Reef-safe sunscreen if you plan to snorkel — most marine parks in Thailand now prohibit chemical sunscreens in the water.
  • Footwear: Waterproof sandals or flip-flops for beach days. A comfortable walking shoe for Bangkok temples (you will remove your shoes frequently).
  • Bag: A small daypack (15–20L) for island trips — waterproof or with a dry bag insert.
  • Electronics: Power bank (10,000 mAh or above), universal travel adapter, and a waterproof phone pouch for boat trips.
  • Documents: Physical copies of passport (photo page), visa exemption acknowledgement if you received one, hotel bookings, and travel insurance. Keep these separate from your originals.
  • Cash: Carry some INR for forex — airport and hotel forex counters in Bangkok are reliable. Avoid airport forex on the Indian departure side (rates are poor).
  • Temple cover: A light scarf or sarong — required to cover shoulders and knees at Wat Pho, Grand Palace, and most active Buddhist temples.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Thailand visa-free for Indians in 2026?

Yes. As of November 2023, India and Thailand have a mutual visa-free agreement allowing Indian passport holders to visit Thailand for up to 30 days without a prior visa or visa on arrival. This arrangement has been confirmed and extended through 2026. You do not need to apply for anything in advance — carry your return flight booking, hotel confirmation, and proof of sufficient funds when you arrive at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

What is the best time to visit Thailand from Coimbatore?

November to February is the best window. The weather across Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi is dry, clear, and cooler than the rest of the year — daytime temperatures in Bangkok run 28–32°C and sea conditions are calm for island trips. March and April are hot and dry. May to October is the wet season; rain is heaviest on the Andaman coast (Phuket and Krabi), so avoid those months for beach-focused itineraries. For a December or January trip from Coimbatore, book at least 60 days in advance — the November-to-February window is peak demand.

How much does a Thailand tour package from Coimbatore cost?

A 5-night Thailand package from Coimbatore (Bangkok 2 nights + Phuket 3 nights) including return flights, hotels, transfers, half-board meals, and one island trip costs approximately ₹55,000–₹75,000 per person. A 7-night package adding Krabi costs ₹65,000–₹90,000 per person. These prices are based on double-sharing accommodation and advance bookings. Solo travellers or those requiring single-room occupancy will incur a single supplement charge, typically ₹8,000–₹12,000 extra for a 7-night trip.

Can vegetarians manage food in Thailand?

Yes, vegetarians manage well in Thailand, particularly in Bangkok and Phuket. Bangkok has several Indian restaurants near the Sukhumvit area including Govinda’s, Himali Cha Cha, and Rang Mahal at the Rembrandt Hotel that serve full vegetarian menus. Thai Buddhist “Jay” food (marked with a yellow flag, pronounced “kin jay”) is plant-based and widely available near temples and in market areas. In Krabi, options are more limited but still manageable. I recommend learning the phrase “kin jay” (เจ) before you go — showing it on your phone at a local restaurant works reliably.

Is 5 nights enough for Thailand?

Five nights is enough for a Bangkok + Phuket trip, especially if you’ve researched what you want to see and are not trying to cover every attraction. The 5N/6D itinerary (Bangkok 2 nights, Phuket 3 nights) gives you time for the Grand Palace and Wat Pho in Bangkok, one full shopping or market day, and three days in Phuket including an island boat trip. Where 5 nights falls short is if you want to include Krabi — that destination genuinely needs 3 nights to be worthwhile. For a first-time visit and if your budget allows, I recommend the 7-night option.
